Well first of all I'd like to apologize for taking so long to update the blog! I have a lot to update on. So in order to make it easier to read I will update the stuff the Doctors told us today than tomorrow I will update the rest haha! (Well I'll try to update the rest tomorrow)
So on Monday (The 16th) I had my 3 hour glucose test. It was a long day but I made it through. I was told to get there before 8:00 am, so I made sure I left the house no later than 7:15. It's about a 15-20 minute drive to the hospital, but parking is usually a pain so I gave myself a big buffer for time! Well I walked in around 7:45 (I also forgot to mention usually between 6-8 am is the morning rush to get on base. And they have to stop every car and check ID's it can take awhile) So I got there and they took me back to do my first blood draw around 8 to get a base reading. It was a 3 hour test so I figured I'd be out by 11(ish) Well what they didn't tell me prior to the appointment that once you take the first test, they have to wait for the results before you even drink the stuff. So I didn't officially start the test until 8:47 am and then I had to wait an hour after I drank the stuff before they drew blood. The stuff really wasn't too bad, everyone I heard told me it was disgusting but I think they were exaggerating. It just tasted like a super sugary orange soda. Really not as bad as everyone was making it out to be.
Unfortunately for me I only have one good vein. Yup I said it one good vein. And between the first test which was the 12th and then the first draw in the morning my one good vein was pretty much useless! So when it was time to test the first official time they had to try to get blood out my other veins in the other arm, and when that didn't work they attempted to get it out of my "good" vein they got super lucky and got just barely enough for the test. Which made me super nervous for the 2nd official test. And when it came down to it, they tried all the veins in my arm and couldn't get any blood come out of any of them. Then they had to call over the "Specialist" they called her because she rarely misses and she's really good at getting the small veins in the hands. Yup! They had to draw blood out of my hand. And when it came time for the 3rd and final draw they "Specialist" was already waiting for me. Haha! And they had to draw out of my hand again. The whole day all the tech's kept joking I shouldn't become a heroin addict because I could not survive haha!
It's been over a week and the bruises are finally starting to heal. My poor arms. It was a long day but it was worth it! Later that day I got the phone call telling me I had passed with flying colors! I was so relieved. I really didn't think my arms could handle the 5 hour test!! Haha
On Tuesday, we got the phone call I consider bittersweet. Danny's Doctor called telling him all his tests came back clean! So they didn't find anything wrong with him. While I am relieved they didn't find anything wrong, I am still concerned about what may still be wrong because he is still experiencing pain in his side. But there is nothing they can do for him unless the pain continues to get worse or he starts experiencing new symptoms. I just wish there was more I could do for him!

That is odd that they drew blood to test you. They only pricked my finger for a drop of blood, they put it through a handheld diabetic reader and got the results in less than ten seconds.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry they put you through that.
