Dachau and Edelweiss and everything in bewteen

This weekend, we had a chance go on a mini vacation before Little Miss Analyn makes her arrival. We had won a free weekend to a Resort called Edelweiss. It's in a town called Garmisch, Germany. But it's located on an Army Post, which was really neat at the same time. Instead of heading straight to Edelweiss, which is about 4 hours away from our house, we decided to take a detour to Dachau. The largest Concentration Camp in Germany. Also about 4 hours from our house. An hour out of the way to Edelweiss.
It was the most sombering and humbling experience I have ever had. You hear all about it in school, but seeing it first hand made it so real, yet so surreal at the same time. It was so hard to comprehend how mankind can be so cruel to people who aren't born the same way. Even though I knew these camps held people other than Jews, but hearing it first hand that other people such as Catholics and Gay's and not to mention people born with mental disabilities. Ugh, it made me so sick. And the gray weather didn't help any. It was definitely an experience I will never EVER forget!

The front gate where they marched every one in from off the train. I was standing on the train tracks when I took this picture. (Or right by them)

A wall the US Soildiers had build after they liberated the camp, in honor of those who lived and died there.

The Gas Chamber. It's hard to describe the energy at the entire site, but the Gas Chamber brought a whole new meaning to that energy. It was dark and very heavy.

And then we have the ovens. It was so hard to imagine people being tossed inside so casually. Definitely a hard thing to comprehend.

After Dachau we were on our way to Edelweiss, and while we were driving some driver didn't quite yield left and turned right into our car. I promise the damage looks worse in the pictures. The only damage is a couple air hoses and obviously the body work.

They were able to tow our car to a nearby storage lot, and then Danny and I took a taxi to a Car Rental Agency in hopes of being able to rent a car.

They didn't have any cars available so they took us to the train station where we rode the train to Munich to rent a car.

Finally we made it to Edelweiss at 8:00 pm. It was a long long day but we all made it safe and sound. And that's what really matters.

This isn't the hotel, this was just a different hotel down town that I thought was cool looking. We had a lot of fun walking around the Farmers Market and just enjoying one another's company.

This is a shot of the mountains outside of our Hotel... The picture doesn't do it justice, but it was so pretty up there. Danny and I kept saying how much the town reminded us of the German version of Park City! We would definitely like to go back and do more there. Unfortunately we were just worn out from our Journey so we didn't do as much as we wanted to!
